Healing is in your hands

Such a great weekend leading worship at Saddleback Corona and Seven @HDC- I played with some old friends at Corona and met some new peeps at HDC.

Sunday morning at Saddleback Corona was amazing because I had the chance to play with the former Saddleback Irvine band. We had a sound check of about 30 minutes and it all came together really well (only by God’s grace). One of the songs that we led was “healing is in your hands” by Christy Nockels- I almost didn’t put it in the set, because I don’t usually like introducing new songs at a church I haven’t been to before, but for some reason, I couldn’t get it out of my head!

A lady approached me at the end of service and told me how much she enjoyed the new song. She told me how the promises that were declared in the song were just what she needed to hear/believe today. She then shared with me that her son has suffered from mental illness for several years and that 3 weeks ago he committed suicide. I was shocked. It broke my heart to hear this news about her son. Although she was heartbroken, I could tell that she has really placed her hope, trust and love in the Lord through this awful situation. She then began sharing with me how God was already using this tragedy for good.

When I prepare for a set list, I tend to think about keys, transitions and what the climate of the service might be. This was a great reminder to trust the Holy Spirit in the planning process, because God, in His Sovereignty, meets all of us where we are at. He will use the words in a particular song to draw His people closer to him in worship. All in all, this was a humbling experience. God doesn’t have to use me to Glorify himself, but this weekend He chose to and I’m thankful I got to be a part of it.
